A Quick Question About The Age Of Puppies When Being Sold?

Many people on this site, including myself, say that puppies shouldn’t be sold until at least 8 weeks old. I’ve also seen that many people have stated that in most states, it’s illegal to sell a puppy that’s under 8 weeks old. How true is that? I was always under the impression that it was illegal if sold by a BUSINESS, such as a pet shop, but NOT by a private breeder. I’ll admit that I haven’t used Google to verify any of this, so do any of you know the facts? I live in MI, and I have yet to see any laws that don’t permit the sale of a puppy from a private home if it’s 6 weeks old or even less, but that might just because I’ve never heard of anyone complaining about this TO the authorities. My question to you is not about the ethics of it, but about state laws when buying/selling from a private breeder out of their home.
No TD’s will be given by me.

I remember reading a link a while back that someone provided, however admittedly it’s been a long while since I have seen that. I just regurgitate the info in small hopes that people will one day realize that reputable breeders are the way to go when purchasing a pup.

I shall watch the answers to this one with interest, being from the UK where, to my knowledge, there is no law regarding best practice for the age to sell puppies, privately bred, or not.
I noticed comments on a website (American but contributors from all over) recently, for my own main breed where somebody was totally convinced that it’s best to get a puppy out and into a new home by at least 6 weeks – all this fear period stuff. I think he/she was in America too. I don’t agree!! But whether that means to avoid this fear period without getting them out earlier than 6 weeks, it would be best to hang onto a puppy way beyond 12 weeks, I’m not sure. I also imagine that to have this conviction, he/she doesn’t live where there is an 8 week law.
