Can Someone Tell Me How To Get Emergency Long Term Housing For Me And My Son?

My son and I have 30 days to find a place to live or we are going to be straight up homeless! I am a single mom and a veteran and I just can’t believe how little the resources are for someone in my situation. The VASH pprogram which the VA offers is closed right now and they are not giving out vouchers but apparently, if you know the right person, you can get on the list and get your voucher within 3 weeks OR LESS! I just seen it happen and the thing is, the guy who got it doesn’t even want it! And here there is someone like me who absolutely NEEDS IT! Can anyone point me in the right direction? Please do not suggest a shelter as I have been to one and work at one and believe me, it’s no place for a single woman and her child. A roof over your head and a hot meal…yes. A drug free, sexual predator free environment…no. Hardly.

If possible, you need to contact your child’s father and ask for his help. Your family can help if you ask. Go to your local DHS office and see what is available for public housing and see if you qualify.

Are you getting evicted? I’m sure a family member – close or distant – or a friend would help you.
Is the father of your child able to pay or can you collect child support from him?
Many people working the desks at the VA don’t know all the programs available. Best to research it online and then apply for those programs.
The VA offers great home purchasing loans whenever you are ready to do that.

No such thing as an emergency housing that is long term. Emergencies are short term. Get a job for some money. Go to a hotel. They do have hotels you can rent by the week. A shelter may have to be your option. Keep your child by your side.
