Choosing A First Tablet – Questions (android, Ipad)?

I am planning on purchasing my first tablet at the end of the year, so I thought I’d do some looking into what I should get.
I know the iPad is the most popular, however I’ve never been a fan of Apple products. For the most part I like MS products, but from what I’ve seen of the Windows 8 tablet, it isn’t for me, which is why I am leaning towards an Android tablet (I use a lot of Google’s services already). I am not discounting an iPad completely as I do have some concerns about Android tablets…
1. Updates. I hear they can be dreadfully slow with Android, if a device ever gets one. I would like to have the latest Android update ASAP.
2. Apps.
a) I know Apple has thousands of tablet specific apps, while most Android apps seem designed for the phone. How big of a deal is this?
b) Do most major apps come out at the same time for both Android and Apple? Example, would an eBay app be released for both devices at the same time? My local radio station has had an iPad app for weeks now, but still nothing for the Android (is this common?)
c) Who has more free apps?
3. Brand of device. I see plenty of Asus, Samsung and Acer tablets in stores. How do those brands rank for tablets?
The names escape me, but I know the Asus (32GB storage) and Samsung (32GB) I saw were $500, while the Acer (32GB) was $450. The iPad 3 (16GB) is about $520. (CDN$)
I suspect some might suggest the Nexus 7 which I do believe looks amazing, however I’m looking at something a bit larger (9-10″).
I suppose if there is anything else (pro/con) to add about either Android tablets or the iPad, I’d appreciate it.

Choose the Samsung Galaxy Tablet 10.1 with the s pen or the new I Pad or the Asus transformer prime.

I would avoid an iPad like the plague. It doesn’t have support for Flash player, which I think is quite an issue. This will prevent you from watching some videos and using interactive websites.
Most Android tablets are fine. You won’t go far wrong with a Samsung, they’re excellent.

Hey I think you should go for apple iPad. I have experience with Samsung. There are lot of problems which you face while using the Samsung. So, I won’t prefer you to use Samsung
