Help With A Minolta Maxxum 7000 35mm Slr Camera?

I just pulled out and dusted off my old Minolta Maxxum 7000 35mm SLR camera from the back of my closet that I bought at a yard sale for $40 about 7 years ago or so. I have a 9 month old son and really want to test it out taking some professional pictures of him. Problem is, I have NO clue how to really use it in a professional manor. It has a filter with it, a flash attachment, and a couple lens attachments. I don’t know how to install the filter or even if I should? Can anyone give me some advice on how to use this camera and some tips at taking professional grade pictures of my son outdoors? Also I bought 2 rolls of Kodak Ektar 100 film. Thanks in advance for your help!
