    Total cost = original cost (1 + tax/100)
    = 6.96*(1.08) = 7.50
    check:
    7.50 * 100/108 = 6.944444 ………. approximation OK

    $6.95 x 1.08= $7.506

    8% is the same as 8100 or .08. 6.95*.08 = .556. .56 is your tax… now add your tax back into your total… 6.95+.56=7.51. hope this helps

    To convert a percent value to a fraction useful in calculation, divide by 100: 8% = 0.08
    The sales tax is figured as a fraction of the cost: .08 * $6.95 = $0.556; round to $0.56
    Total cost is the sum: $6.95 + $0.56 = $7.51
