How has digital downloading, decreased the sales of music?

I was just wondering, because I’ve reading everywhere that digital music, has now decreased the sales of the entire music structure. I’ve also noticed albums aren’t selling the way they used to?

Because people prefer to just buy the singles they like in an album and piracy has increased which loses the music business millions a year

Albums aren’t selling the way they used to because they way they used to be sold wasn’t right in the first place. Before singles / digital downloads of singles, you had to buy an ENTIRE album just to get a few songs. That was a ripoff (for consumers).

Now, you can just buy the songs you like.

So single purchases are probably higher, while album purchases are unsurprisingly lower
