How much discount should I expect when buying a car?

Hi My Son is in need of a new car – maybe a Seat Ibiza or Vauxhall Corsa. We have no idea, in the current climate, how much dealer discount we should expect. can anyone advise.
Thanks

If you buy a good car magazine, like Top Gear Magazine, they have researched this and give a target actual price to pay after discount.

Right now dealers are desperate for new car sales. It’s very much a buyers market. If your a cash buyer then if you find the car you want offer say 25% less than the list price. You should also be able to get the dealer to throw in at least 6 month’s road tax (ask for 1 year) and ask for a full petrol tank as well.

Look at the prices on car supermarkets websites like trade sales of slough. Find with google.

How much of a discount do you expect on that TV you want at WalMart???..come on…everyone should be entitled to make a profit…and I know you have no Idea what the cost of operating a car dealership is..give the guy a break..

    None.

To "expect" a discount implies that you have a right to get the car cheaper than advertised. You don’t.

If you go in with the attitude that you "expect" a discount, most dealers will immediately refuse.

"Discuss", "negotiate" or "request". But don’t "expect".
