The kits are usually not a good deal because they come with a lot of stuff that is useless, and do not include the things you really need. If you are a savvy shopper, you can get everything you need for less than the price of the kit.

For example, you can get your light fixtures at home improvement or large department stores (like your equivalent to Lowe’s or Wal Mart). You can use a regular household bulb for a basking bulb (that’s all you need for heat You don’t want a heat rock or heat pad for a dragon anyway). An indoor/outdoor digital thermometer will measure the temps for you can can be bought at those types of stores, too. Just the ones that are meant to stick the probe out the window for the outdoor temp. You put that probe on your basking spot instead for a basking temp. The stick on therms are inaccurate and don’t even measure in the right place.

And who knows which UVB it will come with or even IF it will come with one. There are only 2 decent UVB bulbs on the market, the Reptisun 10.0 and the Arcadia 12%. The Arcadia is the best one and is available in the UK, so go for that one. The fluorescent tube, not the compact coil.

Then you can use paper towels, non-adhesive shelf liner or tiles for your substrate. Sand is not only expensive, but a big impaction risk as well, so you are better off avoiding it.

You can get the tank itself off of Craigslist or Kijiji or whatever y’all have over there. There are super cheap deals on used tanks all the time.

Most of all, do not depend on the pet store to give you all the info you need to know about caring for your dragon. The care info they hand out is often outdated and sometimes dangerous.

Please continue your research at http://www.beardeddragon.org to learn everything you need to know about taking care of your dragon!

    Best of luck!

it comes with everything apart from sand I think. I got one of these myself nearly a year ago, it’s worth going into your nearest pets at home, they should have some on display and it’ll tell you what you get.
