losing no claims discount?

my policy runs out soon and i’m getting rid of my car as i don’t need one at the moment. Do i lose all my no claims discount if i don’t have an insurance policy?

Your no claims bonus/discount will be valid for two years after your current insurance ends. So if you insure a car within two years you can use the NCB/NCD, but if you insure a car after two years, you will have to start from scratch.

No claims discount is lost if you don’t have a policy in your own name for 2 years.

If you get another car and insure it in your name within the next 24 months, you will retain your current no claims discount. If you don’t, it will be lost and you will revert to ‘new driver’ status.

most companies will let you freeze it for up to 2 years, but do check with your insurance company
