Math Homework – Percents (please Help!)?

1. The 25% discount on a skateboard is $24.75. what is the cost without the discount?
2. The 15% discount on a sweater is $6.75. What is the original cost?

    You’re trying to find an unknown value, which we’ll label as X. They say that 25% of X is 24.75. Remember that percent literally means per a hundred. So 25% is 25/100, which equal to 0.25.
    “Of” always signifies multiplication, so 0.25 of X is .25 times X, also written as .25X. “Is” means equal. Now set it up: 0.25X = 24.75. Divide .25 by both sides to leave X on its own. 0.25X/0.25=1X or X. 24.75 / .25 = $99. So the original price was $99.
    Use the same principal here. 0.15X = $6.75 gives $45.

    4 because of 100/25=4
    2.100/15= 6.6667
    so 6.6667*6.75= $45
