    To solve these, you need to set up a proportion.
    1) 924/x=88/100 92400=88x
    x=150
    2)195.95/x=107/100 19596=107x
    X=183.13

    FIRST question :
    the discount (deduction of 12% of its original price) = (12%) x original price
    so the discountED price (The final amount you have to pay) = (100% – 12%) x original price
    924 = (100% – 12%) x original price
    924 = (88%) x original price
    original price = 924 ÷ 88%
    = $1050
    SECOND QUESTION :
    price after tax = price before tax + the 7% tax
    195.95 = (price before tax) + (7% of price before tax)
    let (price before tax ) = X
    195.95 = (100%X) + (7%X)
    195.95 = 107% X
    X = 195.95 ÷ 107%
    = $183.13

    1. After a 12% discount, a new computer costs $924. What was the original price?
    In this problem we want to find the price of the computer before the discount, so that means we want to find the price when it is at 100%. We can solve this by setting up ratios and cross multiplying. Since we have a 12% discount we subtract 100-12. We get 88%.
    88%=$924
    100%= x <--- x is the original price we want to find out 88% $924 ----------- X ------------ <---- cross multiply. we multiply 924*100. then divide by 88 100% x x= 1050 The original price of the computer is $1050. 2. The total of an item was $195.95. This included a 7% sales tax. What was the price of the item before the tax? - To solve this problem we need to find the price of the sales tax. Again, we can set up a ratio and cross multiply. 7%= x <---x is the price of the sales tax 100%= $195.95 7% x --------- X ------------ <--- multiply 195.95* 7. divide that by 100. 100% $195.95 195.958*7= 1371.65 1371.65/100= 13.7165 The sales tax is $13.7165. round this number to $13.72 because we cant have .7165 cents Subtract the sales tax from the original price $195.95 - $13.72= $182.23 $182.23 is the price of the item before tax.
