Math Word Problems!?!?

A discount store prices its videotapes by raising the wholesale price by 40% and adding $0.20. What must the tapes’ wholesale price be if the tapes sell for $3.00?
The daily charge for a small rental car is c = 18 + .35x where x is the number of miles driven.
1) If the car was driven 80 miles, what was the charge?
2) Suppose that a day’s bill was $39.00. How many miles were driven?
The profit obtained for a company’s product is given by the formula P = 25x – 8150, where P is the profit in dollars and x is the number of units sold. How many units must be sold in order for the company to have a profit of $5,000.00 from this product?
A salesman’s weekly salary is based on the formula S = 200 + 0.1s, where S is the week’s salary in dollars and s is the week’s sales level in dollars. One week, his salary was $410.00. What was the sales level for that week?
The volume of a box with a rectangular bottom is given by V = 120h, where V is the volume in cubic inches and h is the height in inches. If the volume of the box is to be 1,140 cubic inches, what should its height be?

    A discount store prices its videotapes by raising the wholesale price by 40% and adding $0.20. What must the tapes’ wholesale price be if the tapes sell for $3.00?
    work backwards
    3.00 – 0.20 = 2.80
    2.80 – 140%
    2.80 * 100 / 140 = $2.00
    The daily charge for a small rental car is c = 18 + .35x where x is the number of miles driven.
    1) If the car was driven 80 miles, what was the charge?
    18 + 0.35 * 80 = $46
    Please write 0.35x, not .35x that is not the proper mathematical expression
    2) Suppose that a day’s bill was $39.00. How many miles were driven?
    total charge – daily rate = charge for miles
    39 – 18 = 21
    charge for miles divided by mileage rate = miles travelled
    21 / 0.35 = 60 miles
    The profit obtained for a company’s product is given by the formula P = 25x – 8150, where P is the profit in dollars and x is the number of units sold. How many units must be sold in order for the company to have a profit of $5,000.00 from this product?
    rearrange the formula to have x on one side
    P = 25x – 8150
    25x – 8150 = P
    25x = P + 8150
    x = (P + 8150) / 25
    replace P with 5000 and solve
    x = (5000 + 8150) / 25
    = 526
    A salesman’s weekly salary is based on the formula S = 200 + 0.1s, where S is the week’s salary in dollars and s is the week’s sales level in dollars. One week, his salary was $410.00. What was the sales level for that week?
    rearrange the formula so s is on one side
    S = 200 + 0.1s
    200 + 0.1s = S
    0.1s = S – 200
    multiply both sides by 10
    s = 10S – 2000
    Plug in the salary
    s = 10 * 410 – 2000
    =4100 – 2000
    = $2,100
    The volume of a box with a rectangular bottom is given by V = 120h, where V is the volume in cubic inches and h is the height in inches. If the volume of the box is to be 1,140 cubic inches, what should its height be?
    rearrange teh formula so h is on one side
    V = 120 h
    120 h = V
    divide both sides by 120
    h = V/120
    Plug in the volume for V
    h = 1,140 / 120
    = 9.5 inches
