i need help finding the original price. the problem is a camera is on sale at 28% off the usual price. The amount of the discount is $100.80. what was the original price of the camera?

    The simple way is saying that 100.80 is 72% of what? Or 100.8 = .72x. You just divide both sides by .72 to get 100.8/.72 = x

    72%/100 = 0.72
    100.80 = 0.72x
    x = 100.80/0.72 = $140.00 original price of camera

    If the question means exactly what it says that the AMOUNT of the discount is $100.80, then the $100.80 represents 0.28 of the usual price.
    Therefore the original price = 100.80 / 0.28 = $360

    The .72/.72 will cancel out, and you will be left with:
    x = 100.80/.72
    And….the original price is:
    x = 140
