Please Explain How I Figure Out This Math Problem?

Jason bought a jacket on sale for 50% off the
original price and another 25% off the discounted price. If the jacket originally cost $88, what was the final sale price that Jason paid for the jacket?
I know the answer is $33
But how do I get that answer.
Please explain.

  1. Frank says:

50% off $88 brings the price to $44.
25% off of $44 brings the price to $33.
You can do this two ways:
    1. Calculate 25% of 44. That is 11. That’s the discount. Subtract that from $44 to get $33.
    2. If it is 25% off, you subtract that from 100% to get 75%. If the sale price is 25% off of the regular price, the sale price is 75% of the regular price. 75% of $44 is $33.

  2. Andrew says:

    50% is half
    Half 88 is ?
    25% is one quarter
    One quarter of ? = *
    Take * from ?
Nice to do a bit yourself.
