Reboot And Select Proper Boot Device Help!?

So I bought this old PC at a garage sale for 15 dollars from some old people who said they didn’t know how to use it. It was corrupt and virus filled. I decide to wipe the drive and start fresh.
I bought Windows Vista so I could update it from windows xp. After I ran the DBAN Nuke Cd (wipe drive) I put in the Windows Vista OS cd, and configured the bios to boot from cd. Then it gave me a error saying :
Please select proper boot device
or insert media in selected boot device
any suggestions?

Make sure that the CD drive is operating. If the CD drive checks out then make sure the CD is bootable. In the start up phase there should be an option to select a boot device, you could press that key it says and select that CD drive

If your CD drive is external nd u hav connected through USB then u hav to select USB device as ur boot device in boot manager(u can go through boot manager by press F8 startup )
