Should California Strip Boy Scouts Of Tax Exempt Status?

wow – I would have actually joined the BSA as a kid in California if they would have let in atheists – ironically, I now understand that non-theistic Buddhists can get in (which I was not at the time).
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A bill aimed at pressuring the Boy Scouts of America to lift its ban on gay members by making the organization ineligible for nonprofit tax breaks cleared its first vote on Wednesday in the California Legislature.
The Senate Governance and Finance Committee voted 5 to 2 to move the first-of-its-kind bill to the Senate Appropriations Committee for review.
The Youth Equality Act, sponsored by Sen. Ricardo Lara, D-Long Beach, would deny tax-exempt status to youth groups that discriminate on the basis of gender identity, race, sexual orientation, nationality, ====> religion or religious affiliation.
That means those groups would have to pay corporate taxes on donations, membership dues, camp fees and other sources of income, as well as sales taxes on food, beverages and homemade items sold at fundraisers.

The goal of liberals is to get rid of ALL institutions that support codes of morals and values. This certainly includes the Boy Scouts as well as just about all organized religions. They want the government to tell people what is right and wrong.

  2. Liberals, Economic Retards. says:

California is incorrect in trying to force Boy Scouts, a private organization, to conform the values of the State Government.
This is why California is the 49th worst state in the Union.

  3. Big K says:

That sets bad precedent, it would allow the government to use the threat of removing tax exempt status to bully religious organizations.

They couldnt care less about the boy scouts exclusion of homosexuals. The courts have ruled that they have the right to do so, freedom of association. The last paragraph in the article cites the real reason why theyre moving forward with this:
“those groups would have to pay corporate taxes on donations, membership dues, camp fees and other sources of income, as well as sales taxes on food, beverages and homemade items sold at fundraisers.”
Taxes. They want to collect more taxes.

I think the Boy Scouts should stop. Liberals ruin everything they touch. Girl Scouts too. Maybe we should only have gay scouts. That is what the kids learn in school.
