Will the moving company give me a discount if I help them with the packing?

I am trying to bring down the costs of the move and was thinking I could be cheeky and offer to be one of the ´crew´ to get a discount. What do you think?

The theory is that they should – less packing for them, less charges for you right? Wrong. If you have ever seen these guys at work (assuming you are using a proper firm and not cowboys), it is amazing how fast they work. They have a streamlined system which you will be interrupting and are more likely to slow them down than speed them up, hence increasing your costs.

Your best bet to reduce the price – give them as little to pack as possible. Get rid of as much just as you can and stack similar things together so they can be packed quickly and efficiently, whether it is by the hour or by the box.

usually they will charge u more if u "help"….because u will slow down there process…..and get in there way….

but only way to find out is ask…..

doubt it they are going to charge you a standard fee regardless.

probably…they get paid by the hour right..if u help them maybe time is less…

Moving crews get paid by the box (in my experience). Your best bet is to stay out of their way. I don’t know where you’re moving, but get a list of things they won’t pack and remove them from the household. You don’t want them wasting time sorting through you belongings.
